HSLA Grade 50 steel is a structural billet steel for structural applications. HSLA Grade 50 is a material grade and designation defined in ASTM A572 standard. ASTM A572 is an international material standard for billet steel for general structural usage. A-36 steel can be compared with this type of steel.
HSLA Grade 50 Steel Chemical Composition : ASTM A572 defines the chemical composition of HSLA Grade 50 steels as under:
Maximum percentage of Carbon (C) is 0.230.
Maximum percentage of Manganese (Mn) is 1.35.
Maximum percentage of Phosphorous (P) is 0.040.
Maximum percentage of Sulphur (S) is 0.050.
Maximum percentage of Silicon (Si) is 0.350.
Remaining is iron (Fe) percentage and with few negligible impurities.
HSLA Grade 50 Steel Mechanical Properties : The tensile strength of the HSLA Grade 50 Steels is expressed in Newton per millimeters and it must be at-least 451 N/mm2 (MPa). The yield strength is minimum 343 N/mm2 (MPa). The minimum percentage ranges for elongation is 21%.
HSLA Grade 50 Steel Dimensional Characteristics : The applicable thickness for this HSLA Grade 50 material as defined in the ASTM A572 starts from 10 mm to 60 mm.
