TUNNELS and towers with a historic theme have been created to enhance the City Walls.
The most recent piece; a Corten weathering steel tunnel with a split gate featuring a floral design, are due to be fitted in the coming weeks when a team from Chris Brammall's Cumbrian business will be working within the historic Walls to complete the project.
The specialist sculptural and architectural metalworkers were commissioned by Cheshire West and Chester Council to create the pieces which form part of the Portico project, which aims to develop and restore several parts of the city's iconic Walls.
Developed and manufactured at the workshop based just outside of the Lake District National Park, the tunnel and gate will create an unusual striking feature within the Roman Gardens - taking visitors through the walls from the gardens to neighbouring Park Street.
Chris Brammall said: "Chester's Walls and Towers are one of the country's most famous tourist attractions and are visited by more than three million people a year.
We are delighted to have been involved in the Portico investment scheme to repair, restore and refurbish parts of this world famous iconic landmark.
"Chosen for the quality of our workmanship and attention to detail, we are delighted with the finished pieces which create an unusual and distinctive feature within the City Walls."
The company have created other pieces within the Portico project investment for the City Walls and towers including a contemporary dome commissioned to stabilise the 13th century King Charles Tower.
