16Mo3 is a low alloy steel according to EN 10028-2, which is widely used in the manufacture of pressure vessels and boilers due to its excellent high temperature resistance.

peculiarity

16Mo3 has good high temperature strength and oxidation resistance, and can work for a long time in an environment up to 530°C. Its yield strength is above 280 MPa, tensile strength is 440-590 MPa, and it has excellent ductility and creep resistance. This steel can still maintain structural stability at high temperatures, and has good weldability, easy processing and connection, making it ideal for high temperature equipment.

Chemical composition

The chemical composition of 16Mo3 is based on carbon manganese steel, and a small amount of alloying elements are added to improve high temperature properties. The main components include carbon (C) ≤0.12%-0.20%, manganese (Mn) 0.40%-0.90%, silicon (Si) ≤0.35%, phosphorus (P) ≤0.025%, sulfur (S) ≤0.010%, and the key element molybdenum (Mo) 0.25%-0.35%. The addition of molybdenum significantly enhances the corrosion resistance and high temperature strength of the steel plate, and the low phosphorus and sulfur content ensures its toughness and welding quality.

Delivery status

16Mo3 is usually delivered in a Normalized or Normalized + Tempered state. Normalizing treatment by heating to 890-950°C after air cooling, so that the grain refinement, improve the uniformity and toughness of the material. Depending on the specific requirements, additional tempering can also be performed to further optimize performance for different thicknesses and application scenarios.

Scope of application

Due to its high temperature and corrosion resistance, 16Mo3 is widely used in the energy and chemical industries, especially in boilers, pressure vessels and piping systems. It is commonly used in the manufacture of steam boilers, superheater tubes and heat exchangers, as well as in pressure equipment in power plants and reactors in the petrochemical industry. Its reliability in high temperature and pressure environments makes it the material of choice in these fields.
