Characteristics of S355J0W steel

S355J0W steel is a kind of weathering steel, also known as atmospheric corrosion resistant steel, is a low alloy steel series between ordinary steel and stainless steel. This steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of copper, nickel and other corrosion resistant elements, so that it has stronger weather resistance than ordinary steel. In the grade representation of S355J0W steel, "S" stands for structural steel, "355" stands for the lowest yield strength of 355MPa when the thickness is less than or equal to 16mm, "J" stands for the quality identifier of the relevant impact work value, "0" stands for 0℃ impact test, and "W" stands for the resistance of steel to atmospheric corrosion. The standard of S355J0W steel plate is EN10025-5:2004.

Characteristics of S355J0W steel

Excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance: S355J0W steel adds a small amount of corrosion resistance elements such as copper and nickel on the basis of ordinary steel, which can form a dense protective film on the surface of the steel plate and effectively resist corrosion factors in the atmosphere, such as moisture, oxygen and pollutants. Therefore, the atmospheric corrosion resistance of S355J0W steel is 2 to 8 times that of ordinary carbon steel, and it has a long service life.

Good mechanical properties: S355J0W steel has the characteristics of strength, plastic extension, molding, welding and cutting, abrasion, high temperature and fatigue resistance of high-quality steel. The yield strength is above 355MPa, the tensile strength is between 410-630MPa, and the elongation after breaking should be greater than or equal to 20%. These properties make S355J0W steel excellent in a variety of engineering applications. Excellent welding performance: S355J0W steel has good welding performance and can be connected by various welding methods, such as arc welding, gas welding, resistance welding and so on. This makes S355J0W steel widely used in the field of welding connections.

Good impact toughness: When the impact temperature of S355J0W steel is 0 degrees, the impact work should be greater than or equal to 31J, showing good impact toughness. This means that S355J0W steel can withstand large impact loads, ensuring the stability and safety of the structure.

Rust resistance, thinning and consumption reduction, labor and energy saving: S355J0W steel has the characteristics of rust resistance, which can reduce the corrosion and loss of components, thereby extending its service life. At the same time, because S355J0W steel has good mechanical properties and weather resistance, the use of steel can be reduced, the project cost can be reduced, and the effect of energy saving can be achieved.
