I'm looking for the ASTM A242 (Type 2) equivalence in the European Standard. I read that it's S355 J0WP, but I can't find any documentation that will correlate the tensile requirements (or otherwise prove that they are indeed the same). I have bought the official ASTM A242 specification, but I can't find the s355 J0WP specification to verify whether they are indeed the same.
Can you tell me what the European equivalent is to ASTM a242, and where I can get some verification of this?
There are NEVER exact equivalents as written even if in fact the analyses are the same there may be some small difference in recommended heat treatment or content of some minor impurity or tramp element or ruling section which makes them different 'as the spec is written'.
I suggest ,unless you get a better answer, that you look for steels according to the properties needed say ultimate tensile strength, alloy and carbon content, ruling section (if to be hardened and tempered).
A242 is a 0.15%C, 1.00%Mn (typical) steel.
There are lots of equivalents to it in terms of the chemistry
The Rm is 480MPa min and the Rp0.2 is 345 min
There are lots of steels which are equivalent to this, too.
The best places to look are:
BS970 - wrought steels (080M15 is the same chemically)
BS EN 10025 - structural steels (where you can get the mechanicals)
The grade you mention above is from BS EN 10154:2002
