A588 weathering steel Heat treatment specification and delivery status

A588 weathering steel is a new type of atmospheric corrosion resistant steel, which hardly rusts in the atmosphere and has good salt spray resistance. A588 weathering steel is a new type of metal material with a high chromium content in the steel and a small amount of nickel, molybdenum, titanium and other elements. A588 weathering steel not only has good corrosion resistance, weldability and weldability (weldability), but also has high strength. A588 weathering steel is a new type of metal material. Adding a small amount of copper, nickel and other atmospheric corrosion resistant elements to steel can effectively improve the corrosion resistance and atmospheric corrosion resistance of A588 weathering steel.

Heat treatment specifications:
(1) Quenching, 820~850℃ oil cooling, 2h;
(2) Tempering (180~200°C), 4h, air cooling;
(3) The hardness is 40~50 HRC in the quenched state, and 42~48 HRC when the oil is cooled.
(4) Tempering, air cooling at 200°C;
(5) Eliminate internal stress.

The delivery status of A588 weathering steel, because A588 weathering steel is a special type of steel with special performance requirements, so the following delivery status is usually used in the design:
Hot rolling: ≤219℃±5O~100℃±2O~+30℃
Normalizing: ≤315℃±2O~+40℃±1 0
Tempering: ≤220℃±2O~-10 4O~+40d (normalizing temperature)
Quenching, tempering: ≤230

After quenching and tempering of A588 weathering steel, 300g and 200g samples were taken respectively for metallographic analysis. The results show that the alloying effect obviously affects the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and welding performance of A588 weathering steel, especially the improvement of low temperature impact toughness can effectively improve the fatigue strength of A588 weathering steel.
